HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1509 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 11/01/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 11/02/95 Daily Status Report as of 306/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed HRS/2 5878 (Si, Fe, and Mg towards HD93521) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to obtain the = abundances of Si, Fe, and Mg in nine interstellar clouds along the = line-of-sight to an O-type star in the galactic halo. During this = proposal there was a status buffer message indicating that there was a = fine x-null balance failure. HSTAR 5346 documents this event. Otherwise, = the observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxy 3C136.1 = to study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6132 (Imaging Young Stellar Objects) The Planetary Camera was used to image the environments of several = T-Tauri stars. Analysis of the images will be used to constrain various = physical parameters including the initial angular momentum of the = protostellar cloud cores, the radii of circumstellar disks and the = interaction between highly collimated jets and the protostellar envelopes = of young stellar objects. The observation was executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6000 (Galaxies in High Redshift Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain deep broad-band images of several = high-redshift galaxy clusters. The objective is to study the morphology = of those clusters, and compare them with nearby clusters. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5943 (Decoupled Cores in Low-Mass Early Type = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the nuclear region of = the low luminosity early-type galaxy NGC7192-NU to study its detached = decoupled core. The observations were completed as planned, and no = anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5849 (Host Galaxies of Luminous Nearby Quasars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep exposure observations of host = galaxy MMJ6490 which is known to have a luminous nearby quasar. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/RD 6167 (FOS Cycle 5: Dark Monitoring) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make several = dark calibration images. All exposures were internals. All spectra was = done in the image mode. The observations were completed as planned, and = no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 12 There were FHST update failures at 306/0544Z and at 306/0546Z. 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
