HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1514 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 11/08/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 11/09/95 Daily Status Report as of 313/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/RD 6314 (QSO Broad Abs Line Region Gas) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to obtain UV = spectra of a QSO with broad absorption lines (BALs). These BALs are = believed to be produced by highly ionized gas moving out from the QSO at = high velocity. A UV spectrum of this target is needed to follow the shape = of the continuum into the far UV. The observation was executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6332 (The Circumnuclear Regions of Seyfert Galaxies = LRF Part: Cycle 4 Medium) The WF/PC-2 and the linear ramp filter (LRF) were used to make = observations for the circumnuclear regions of Seyfert galaxy FR680N18 in = both emission and continuum. From the data the PI expects to derive = sufficient evidence to confirm or refute a suggested model of Seyfert Type = 2 galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6099 (Black Holes and Cores of Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to search for possible black holes in the = cores of nearby early-typr galaxies. The WF/PC-2 will be used to obtain = high resolution images of several galaxies to identify those with bright = cores, and to provide sufficiently accurate coordinates for the FOS, which = will be used to measure the velocity dispersion around selected galaxies. = The acquisition for this proposal, at 312/051449Z, failed to fine lock = back-up on FGS-2 only. The re-acquisition, at 312/064748Z, experienced the= same result. HSTAR 5358 was written to document these events. = Otherwise, the observations were executed as scheduled, and no further = anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5914 (The Formation History of Globular Clusters in = M-33) The WF/PC-2 was used to make V and I observations of globular = cluster NGC-598-C20 AND NGC-598-R14 which is located in the M-33 galaxy in = order to study its formation history. Color-magnitude diagrams made from = these images will be examined for evidence of a parameter other than = metallicity that influences the evolutionary development of stars. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak-flat calibration images. = These streak-flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6060 (The Structure of Nova Shells) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the nova shell around = GK-Perseus in order to study its structure. The goal is to determine = whether these shells are broken into knots, and if so, to determine the = size distribution of the knots. The observations were completed as = planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions of Planetary = Nebula Nuclei) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = planetary nebulus IW1 to study their nuclei and to look for possible = companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 7 Successful : 7 2.3 Operations Notes: Operations were uneventfully conducted from the SAMS back-up = facility for four hours last night. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time.
