HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1516 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 11/13/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 11/14/95 Daily Status Report as of 318/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 6054 (FGS Observations of Halo Population Binaries) The FGSs were used in the TRANS mode to make astrometric = observations of the spectroscopic binary star HD20039. From the FGS scans, = the separation, position angles, and magnitude difference of the two stars = will be obtained. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = problems were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with flux = excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed FOS/RD 5824 (Occultation of GSC5249 by Saturn) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to observe = Saturn's atmosphere and its rings while being occulted by GSC5249. = Spectra of the occulted star, of Saturn's atmosphere and of Suturn's rings = will be obtained before and after the occultation. This proposal was = affected by the loss of fine lock. See HSTAR # 5360. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5998 (The Evolution of Massive Stars: Closing the = Loop Observationally) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of (OB Class) massive = star M-33-FLD8 which is located in the Andromeda galaxy. The goal is to = study the evolution of this class of massive stars. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal Monitor = - Vis Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration = images. Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The = observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5972 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance = Scale) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-2541 = looking for standard candle Cepheid variable stars. The purpose of this = observations is to help estimate the Hubble constant with an accuracy of = 10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy = 3C137.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's = morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/RD 6044 (Carbon in the ISM of Spirals) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to obtain UV and = optical spectra of the H II regions in two spiral galaxies. The intent is = to derive the C abundances and C/O ratios at several positions in these = galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxy 3C244.1 = to study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 6184 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Photometric Calibration = Monitor UV/OPT STD) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet and optical observations = of standard star GRW+70D582 in order to monitor the photometric = calibrations of the camera and to check for decontamination. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5938 (The Underlying Nature of Nearby BL Lac = Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for the BL Lac object = QSO0814+42 to determine if this object is a relatively nearby or lensed = distant object. The observations were completed as planned, and no = problems were reported. 1.12 Completed GHRS/2 6169 (HRS Eschelle Wavelength Monitor) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side 2) was used to calibrate = carrousel function, Y-deflection, resolving power, sensititity, and = scattered light for both eschelle-A and eschelle-B. All exposures are = internals. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 04 Successful : 04 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 20 Successful : 20 2.3 Operations Notes: none 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: None. /DMH
