HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1530 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 12/05/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 12/06/95 Daily Status Report as of 340/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration = observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were = taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the = cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5972 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance = Scale) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-1365 = looking for standard candle Cepheid variable stars. The purpose of this = observations is to help estimate the Hubble constant with an accuracy of = 10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6232 (Star Formation at the Edge) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the extreme late-type, = low surface brightness spiral galaxies NGC-4242 and NGC-4395 which are = known to have a very compact nucleus. These galaxies are interesting = objects because they might be an intermediate type between an active = galactic nuclei and an inactive galactic nuclei. The observations were = completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed FGS 6258 (Is the Chiron Occultation Star, CH02, a = Double?) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the star = CH02 to determine if this star is a double star. The star CH02 was = occulted by the deep-solar system object Chiron in 1993. The light from = the star did not disappear completely during the occultation, so it is = possible that the star is a close binary. The observations were executed = as s scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random, long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2/FOC/96 6257 (Deep Photometry of Globular Cluster = M-92) Both the WF/PC-2 and the Faint Object Camera (f/96) were used to = make deep observations of globular cluster NGC-6341 (aka, M-92) in order = to obtain a color-magnitude diagram and luminosity function for its faint = stars. The FOC pictures were primary, and the WF/PC-2 pictures were in = parallel. The observations were completed as planned and no anomalies = were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 17 Successful : 17 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations transitioned to the SEER area so that = re-configuration of the MOR/SMOR could be performed. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
