HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1535 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 12/12/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 12/13/95 Daily Status Report as of 347/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6184 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Photometric Calibration = Monitor UV/OPT STD) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet and optical observations = of standard star GRW+70D582 in order to monitor the photometric = calibrations of the camera and to check for decontamination. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6058 (Direct Imaging of a = Circumstellar Disk: Beta Pictoris) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the circumstellar disk = on the star Beta Pictoris (aka, HD39060) in order to study the brightness = profile of the disk. During the first iteration of this proposal, there = was a three minute, 29 second loss of lock starting at 346/042924Z. The = take data flag went down as a SIP was being commanded. HSTAR 5401 was = written. Otherwise, the observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FOS/BL 5851 (Post Asymptotic Giant Branch Evolution in = the Magellanic Clouds) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = ultraviolet observations of the planetary nebula LMC-SMP62 which is = located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Extensive ground-based and HST = observations and imaging work has already been done on this object. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5999 (The Nuclear Structure of S0 Galaxies: A PC = Imaging Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of S0 class galaxy IC3131 = in order to study its nuclear structure. This is a part of a large survey = of S0, E/S0, and S0/a class galaxies. The targets will cover a wide range = in luminosity and environment. The observations were completed as = planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of FGS 6239 (Duplicity Among Hyades Stars Cycle = 5, High) The FGSs were used in the TRANS Mode to make astrometric = observations of stars VA43 and VA68 which are located in the Hyades Star = Cluster to see if these stars are possible doubles. Each of these stars = may have a very low mass main sequence companion or a degenerate = component. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low-Mass Binaries and Luminosity Fuction) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low-mass binary = system SGP012 (late type class M dwarf stars). The intent is to determine = why the local stellar luminosity function is flat below Mv=3D12, while = that found from more distant stars falls by an order of magnitude by = Mv=3D14. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/BL 5581 (Pulsating White Dwarf DN Draconis) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used in the rapid mode = to cover the 17.1 hour beat period of the pulsating DA white dwarf DN = Draconis (aka G226-29) to determine the index of the pulsational mode = which will allow for the outer hydrogen layer to be determined. The = observations completed nominally with no reported problems. 1.9 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6183 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Decon) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some internal flat, K-Spot, and dark = calibration images. The purpose is to define decontamination procedures = to be run during Cycle 5. The calibration observations were completed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Operations Notes: There was a two minute, 22 second data dropout during STGT = operations for unknown reasons. The data is recoverable. A TTR was = written. Operations personnel are monitoring HST telemetry on a parallel = backup string which is using the new PRS TTAC software. Other than some = minor set-up problems, all subsystem operations appear to be nominally = supported with the new system. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
