The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Five Sets of FOS/RD 6236 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of = Spectra and Wavelength Calibration: Red Side Detector) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = calibration observations in order to determine the location of the spectra = and to perform a wavelength calibration. All observations were internal. = A Taled calibration was also completed. The observations were completed = as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed Two sets of WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.4 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5972 (Determination of the = Extragalactic Distance Scale) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxies NGC-5972, = NGC-2541 and NGC-3521 looking for standard candle Cepheid variable stars. = The purpose of these observations is to help estimate the Hubble constant = with an accuracy of 10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6056 (Spectroscopy and Imagery of the Orion = Nebula) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of selected sections of = the Orion Nebula (aka, NGC-1976). A wavelength calibration image was also = taken. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) = The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy = 3C172.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's = morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2/FOC/96 6257 (Deep Photometry of Globular Cluster = M-92) Both the WF/PC-2 and the Faint Object Camera (f/96) were used to = make deep observations of globular cluster NGC-6341 (aka, M-92) in order = to obtain a color-magnitude diagram and luminocity function for its faint = stars. The FOC pictures were primary, and the WF/PC-2 pictures were in = parallel. The observations were completed as planned and no anomalies = were reported. 1.8 Completed FOS/RD 6007 (Comparison of Large Scale Structures in QSO = Absorbers and Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side ) was used to make = observations of Lyman-alpha absorber QSO CT336 to do a comparison study of = its large scale structure. This target was selected as a deep, redshifted = galaxy from a survey which already exists. The observations were executed = as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky survey = observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with = the prime science observations. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 6332 (The Circumnuclear Regions of Seyfert = Galaxies LRF Part: cycle 4 Medium) The WF/PC-2 and the linear ramp filter (LRF) were used to make = observations for the circumnuclear regions of Seyfert galaxy NGC-262 in = both emission and continuum. From the data the PI expects to derive = sufficient evidence to confirm or refute a suggested model of Seyfert Type = 2 galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions of = Planetary Nebula Nuclei) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = planetary nebula NGC-1360 to study its nuclei and to look for possible = companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5968 (Extragalactic Background Light) The WF/PC-2 was used to make direct observations of the magnitude = and color of the diffuse Extragalactic Background Light. Knowledge of the = value of the integrated optical flux of this background is of fundamental = importance to cosmology. A dark and bias observations were also taken. = The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were = reported. 1.13 Completed FOS/BL 6038 (Winds of Massive Stars in Nearby Galaxies, = the WR Stars) The Faint Object Spectrograph ( Blue side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the massive Wolf-Rayette star M-33-FUV350 = which is located in the M-33 Galaxy in order to study its stellar winds. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.14 Completed WF/PC-2 6122 (High Resolution Imaging of Shocks in 30 = Doradus) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observational high resolution images = of the shock/ionization fronts within H II region of NGC-2070-NW-Shell = (aka, 30-Doradus). The shock is in one of the outer, supershells that are = part of this complex. Both line and continuum exposures were made. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.15 Completed GHRS/1 6083 (The Expanding Chromosphere of a Star) The High Resolution Spectrograph ( Side One) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the Lyman-Alpha emission region of the = expanding chromosphere of the A class star HD12311. The observations were = executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.16 Completed FGS 6049 (Monitoring the Size and Shape of Mira Type = Stars) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the Mira = class star HD120285 in order to study its size and shape during different = phases of its pulsation cycle. The observations were completed as = planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.17 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 19 Successful : 19 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 26 Successful : 26 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 39 Successful : 39 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems reported during the = weekend.
