HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1539 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 12/18/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 12/19/95 Daily Status Report as of 353/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of radio galaxy 3C266.0 = to study the morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6340 (The HDF Experiments: Flanking Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make flanking flats images to be used on = the Hubble Deep Field (HDF) proposals. There were a total of ten images = in eight fields which were taken adjacent to the HDF field (HDF-123621). = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6184 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Photometric Calibration = Monitor UV/OPT STD) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet and optical observations = of standard star GRW+70D582 in order to monitor the photometric = calibrations of the camera and to check for decontamination. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FOS/RD 6007 (Comparison of Large Scale Structures in QSO = Absorbers and Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = observations of Lyman-Alpha absorber Q0103-2622 to do a comparison study = of its large scale structure. This target was selected as a deep, = redshifted galaxy from a survey which already exists. The observations = were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure, medium deep sky = survey observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel = with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor - Vis Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration = images. Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The = observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6337 (The Hubble Deep Field Observations) The WF/PC-2 were used to take the Hubble Deep Field (HDF) images. = This project consists of hundreds of long WF/PC-2 exposures of the high = galactic latitude field (HDF-123621), taken in eight visits. A dark = calibration image was also taken. The observations were completed as = planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed FOS/RD 6339 (Verification of the UV Spectrum of the HST = Background Light ) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = ultraviolet observations of the HST background light. These FOS = observations were taken in parallel with the Hubble Deep Field (HDF) = survey. Both the HDF and these FOS data will be used to test and improve = the existing engineering model of the HST background light. The = observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 1 Successful : 1 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 14 Successful : 14 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 4 Successful : 4 2.3 Operations Notes: Due to scheduling errors at STGT/NASCOM, there were two scheduled = events that resulted in negative TDRSS acquisitions. As a result there = were two periods of lost engineering data, from 352/133601Z to 352/141152Z = and from 352/202927Z to 352/352/204846Z. A TTR was written. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
