HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1545 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/02/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/03/96 Daily Status Report as of 003/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Five Sets of GHRS/1 6171 (CRIMP1: Cycle 5 = Condensed-Regimen Integrated Monitoring Program) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to obtain = darks, internal flats (in photoscan mode), wavelength calibrations and = observations of standard star BD+28D4211. This includes detector = calibration, sensitivity monitoring, and wavelength monitoring. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6367 (High Resolution Imaging of Nearby Nuclear = Starbursts) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution images of the star = bursting nuclei in galaxy NGC-253. Selected narrow and wide band passes = were used. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.4 Completed Four Sets of GHRS/2 6172 (CRIMP2: Cycle 5 = Condensed-Regimen Integrated Monitoring Program) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to obtain = darks, internal flats (in photoscan mode), wavelength calibrations and = observations of standard star BD+28D4211. This includes detector = calibration, sensitivity monitoring, and wavelength monitoring. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FGS 6047 (Calibrating the Mass Luminosity Relation at the = End of the Main Sequence) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of star GJ2005 = as part of a study to determine its mass luminosity relationship. The = purpose is to measure the precise parallax and relative orbit of its faint = companion. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed FGS 6274 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic = Referance Frame) FGS #3 was used to make astrometeric observations of extra-galactic = objects 0405-123IN, 340-REF, 341, REF, 342-REF, INCA221-28 and several = other reference stars in order to help link the HIPPARCOS satellite = reference frame to that of the HST. The observations were completed as = planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5996 (The Morphology of Field Galaxies at High = Redshifts) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of several field = galaxies (FIELD-0302) in order to study their morphologies. The = observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series of internal calibration = observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-spot calibration images were = taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the = cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5988 (Imaging Quasars in Rich Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of radio quasar 5C2.10 = which is located in a rich galactic cluster. There is evidence that = quasars in rich clusters of galaxies evolve more quickly than quasars in = poor environments. The observations were completed as planned, and no = problems were noted. 1.12 Completed S/C 5582 (FOC/48 Monthly Activation (Camera Section = Only): Cycle 4) This proposal was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.13 Completed GHRS/2 6249 (Observations of Interstellar Oxygen) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = spectrographic observations of star HD120324 in order to study = interstellar oxygen in the line of sight to that star. It was found = previously that the oxygen abundance in the direction of Orion is only = half of the solar abundance. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 18 Successful : 18 2.3 Operations Notes: The new PRS TTAC system continues to be run in parallel with the = opertional realtime system, with operations personnel monitoring and = utilizing both systems. No problems or differences were noticed, except = for an instance of data inversion that was observed on the new system but = not on the operational system. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
