HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1547 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/04/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/05/96 Daily Status Report as of 005/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of GHRS/1 6171 (CRIMP1: Cycle 5 = Condensed-Regimen Integrated Monitoring Program) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to obtain = darks, internal flats (in photoscan mode), wavelength calibrations and = observations of standard star BD+28D4211. This includes detector = calibration, sensitivity monitoring, and wavelength monitoring. During = the first iteration, a status buffer error message occurred at 004/025944Z = that told of a coarse Y-null balance failure. HSTAR 5426 was written. = Otherwise, the observations were executed as scheduled, and no further = anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed GHRS/1 6070 (Interstellar Tin: Probing Galactic S-Process = Element Enrichment) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = Echelle A observations of star HD38771 in order to probe for interstellar = tin and to study the galactic S-process neutron capture of element = enrichment. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5935 (Gravitational Imaging in Well-Constrained = Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to study gravitational lensed systems located = in the well constrained galactic cluster AC114-POS1. The objective is to = study the distribution of mass within the cluster, and to determine = distances to the faint background galaxy. As described in HSTAR 5427, the = guide star acquisition for this proposal failed fo fine lock on FGS #3 = only. Except for this occurrence, the observations were completed as = planned, and no other anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6099 (Black Holes and Cores of Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to search for a possible black hole in the = core of nearby early-typr galaxy NGC-821. The WF/PC-2 will be used to = obtain high resolution images of this galaxy to identify and study its = bright core, and to provide sufficiently accurate coordinates for the FOS, = which will be used to measure the velocity dispersion. The observations = were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5972 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance = Scale) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-3198 = looking for standard candle Cepheid variable stars. The purpose of these = observations is to help estimate the Hubble constant with an accuracy of = 10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5974 (The Evolution of Radio Loud Quasars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the radio loud large = redshift quasar MRC1244-25. The purpose is to determine if this galaxy is = from the same parent population as other kinds of radio galaxies already = studied using HST. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6303 (Observations of Galaxies Underlying = Quasars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of low red shift quasar = PG1358+04 in order to study its underlying galaxy. The purpose is to = detect structure down to the 0.1 arcsecond level. The observations were = completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 16 Successful : 16 2.3 Operations Notes: As reported previously, the exceeding of operationally set = temperature limits continues to be the case for many parameters. This is = normal for this time of the year. However, to ensure that these = violations do not represent health and safety issues, each occurrence is = written up in individual HSTARs. The parallel checkout of PRS 8.1 TTAC software continues with no = problems being reported. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
