HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1551 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/17/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/18/96 Daily Status Report as of 018/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5999 (The Nuclear Structure of S0 Galaxies: A PC = Imaging Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of S0 class NGC-4379 = galaxy in order to study its nuclear structure. This is a part of a large = survey of S0, E/S0, and S0/a class galaxies. The targets will cover a = wide range in luminosity and environment. The observations were completed = as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor - Vis Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration = images. Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The = observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5922 (HST Observations of Hawaii Deep Survey = Fields) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of field SSA4 as part of = a survey to study the Hawaii Deep Field objects. For those galaxies = detected, the morphological type will be determined. The evolution of the = galaxy type mix and surface brightness profile with redshift will be = studied. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6352 (Dwarf Eliptical Galaxy Snapshots) The WF/PC-2 was used to take a snapshot survey observation of = FCC48, from a sample of 30 dwarf eliptical galaxies. The observations = were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 5846 (FOS Spectroscopy of the Complex Gaseous = Structure in the Nucleus of NGC-5252) The Faint Object Spectroscope (Red Side) was used to make = observations of the complex gaseous structure in the nucleus of Seyfert = galaxy NGC-5252. The locations were determined from earlier HST images, = which show, among other things, a clear nuclear disk-like structure. A = wavelength calibration image was also taken. The observations were = completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 4 The guide star acquisition at 018/022648Z failed for reasons not = currently understood. HSTAR 5467 was written. Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 13 Successful : 13 2.3 Operations Notes: There were operations problems during this day. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
