HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1554 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/22/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/23/96 Daily Status Report as of 023/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low-Mass Binaries and Luminosity Fuction) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low-mass binary = system NGP012 (late type class M dwarf stars). The intent is to determine = why the local stellar luminosity function is flat below Mv=3D12, while = that found from more distant stars falls by an order of magnitude by = Mv=3D14. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.3 Completed FGS 6263 (Parallax of Delta Cephei) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the variable = star Delta Cephei to measure its parallax distance. Delta Cepheid is a = prototypical Cepheid variable star. HST observations could reduce the = uncertainty of its distance to 15%. The observations were completed as = planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6344 (Low - Mass Binaries in the = Hyades - Completing the Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary = stars RHY064 and RHY402 (M-class dwarf stars) which are located in the = Hyades Cluster. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/BL 6038 (Winds of Massive Stars in Nearby Galaxies, = the WR Stars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the massive Wolf-Rayette star M-33-FUV444 = which is located in the M-33 Galaxy in order to study its stellar winds. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6132 (Imaging Young Stellar Objects) The Planetary Camera was used to image the environments of T-Tauri = class star IRAS04248. Analysis of the images will be used to constrain = various physical parameters including the initial angular momentum of the = protostellar cloud cores, the radii of circumstellar disks and the = interaction between highly collimated jets and the protostellar envelopes = of young stellar objects. The observation was executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/BL 6206 (FOS Polarimetry Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to determine the = most useful spectropolarimetric modes. The investigators will determine = the locations of the polarization spectra, the transmission of the = polarizer, the angles of the Wollaston prisms and waveplates in celestial = coordinates, and the instrumental polarization. The observations were = completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.9 Completed Two Sets of Sets of WF/PC-2 5760 (The Search for Super = Planets Around Weak T-Tauri Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make I-Band observations of T-Tauri Class = star HBC405 in order to search for possible super planets by looking for = thermal radiation from the planets in orbit around these stars. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.10 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions = of Planetary Nebula Nuclei) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = planetary nebula K1-14 to study its nuclei and to look for possible = companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.11 Completed FOS/RD 5639 (HST Spectrograph of Cygnus A-II) The Faint Object Spectroscope (Red Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of nucleus of 3C405 (aka, Cygnus A-11) and = several offsets. One offset spectrographic observation was a plasma knot = to the northwest of the nucleus. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky survey = observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with = the prime science observations. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 10 2.3 Operations Notes: The battery #5 capacity test was completed at 022/1445Z.
