HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1555 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/23/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/24/96 Daily Status Report as of 024/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky survey = observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with = the prime science observations. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low-Mass Binaries and Luminosity Fuction) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low-mass binary = system NGP014 (Late Type Class M dwarf stars). The intent is to determine = why the local stellar luminosity function is flat below Mv=3D12, while = that found from more distant stars falls by an order of magnitude by = Mv=3D14. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.3 Completed FOS/BL 6038 (Winds of Massive Stars in Nearby Galaxies, = the WR Stars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the massive Wolf-Rayette star M31-OB78-W = which is located in the M-33 Galaxy in order to study its stellar winds. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration = observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were = taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the = cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.5 Completed FOS/BL 5843 (First Ultraviolet Spectrographic Survey of = 2060 Charon) The Faint Object Spectrograph (f/48) was used to make ultraviolet = spectrographic observations of the deep solar-system object 2060-Chiron = while it is near perihelion. This will provide information on the = properties of the surface of Chrion and the gas surrounding it. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 11 Successful : 11 2.3 Operations Notes: ESTR #2 remains powered off pending the completion of the on-going = anomaly investigation. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
