HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1557 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/25/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/26/96 Daily Status Report as of 026/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6344 (Low - Mass Binaries in the Hyades - = Completing the Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary = star RHY049 (M-Class Dwarf Stars) which is located in the Hyades Cluster. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5972 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance = Scale) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-2090 = looking for standard candle Cepheid variable stars. The purpose of these = observations is to help estimate the Hubble constant with an accuracy of = 10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6223 (The Disks Around Young Stellar Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to study the disk around the young stellar = object FS-Tau which is located in the Taurus-Auriga molecular cloud. This = disk was detected by a radio telescope, and is comparable to the estimated = size of the solar nebula about the time of planetary formation. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed two Sets of WF/PC-2 5447 (The Nature of Primeval = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep polarization observations of the = distant, massive galaxy TX0828+193 to look for molecular gas, dust, and = star formation. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of FOS/BL 6166 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of Spectra = and Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = wavelength calibration images to measure the stability of the FOS Blue = Side wavelength scale and spectral locations. A Taled calibration = observations was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed Two Sets WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth = Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 9 Successful : 9 2.3 Operations Notes: On two occasions there were polynomial errors on science tape = recorder dumps, once on STR #1 and once on STR #3. In the first case, the scientific observation was unaffected when = a re-dump moved the errors to another portion of the dump. For the second = occurrence, there was no time to re-dump. A WFPC-2 observation was = affected. ESTR #2 remains in a powered off state. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
