HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1559 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/29/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/30/96 Daily Status Report as of 030/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed FOS/RD 6032 (The Upper IMF in the Magellanic Clouds. II. = Spatially Resolved) The Faint Object spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make offset = spectrographic observations of individual stars in a WN+OB cluster = association near the 30 Dor complex in order to study the upper IMF in the = Large Magellanic Clouds. The goal is to obtain information about the mass = function, and about evolutionary relationships between the peculiar = objects and their normal OB companions. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6033 (Parallel High Resolution = Imaging of Defuse Objects in the Magellanic Clouds) The WF/PC-2 was used to make parallel images of a variety of defuse = objects located in the Magellanic Clouds. The observations were primarily = in the Balmer lines and stronger forbidden lines, with supplemental = continuum images. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = problems were reported. 1.4 Completed FGS 6326 (Monitor the Long Term Stability of FGS#3 - = Early 1996) FGS#3 was used to make astrometric observations of star OF956 and = other nearby standard stars which are located in the M-35 open star = cluster in order to test the long term stability of the FGS unit. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5908 (New Class Gravitational Lenses) The WF/PC-2 was used to try to confirm the nature of gravitational = lens candidate QSO-071603, selected during a new radio survey. = Observations will be obtained using the F555W and F814W filters. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed FOS/RD 6019 (Supersonic Velocity Dispersion in Dwarf Nova = Accretion Disks) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the dwarf nova V2051-Oph in order to study = its supersonic velocity dispersion. The intent is to nail down the = physical support mechanism for its accretion disk of this short period = eclipsing dwarf nova. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed FOS/RD 6020 (SINS: Supernova Intensive Study - Cycle 5) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the supernova remnant LMC-SN1987 which is = located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. This is to study the development = of the nova, and its interstellar matter. The observations were completed = as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Operations Notes: ESTR #2 remains in a powered off state pending results of the = anomaly investigation. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
