HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1560 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/30/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/31/96 Daily Status Report as of 031/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6033 (Parallel High Resolution Imaging of Defuse = Objects in the Magellanic Clouds) The WF/PC-2 was used to make parallel images of a variety of defuse = objects located in the Magellanic Clouds. The observations were primarily = in the Balmer lines and stronger forbidden lines, with supplemental = continuum images. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky survey = observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with = the prime science observations. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5923 (The Structure of the Emission Line Regions = of Compact Steep Spectrum) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the compact radio = galaxy 3C48 in order to study the structure of the emission line regions = of its compact steep spectrum. The goal is to map the emission line = structure and establish its relationship to the radio structure. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration = observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were = taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the = cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5994 (HST Images of New Candidates For Distant = Proto-Ellipticals) The WF/PC-2 was used to make an observation of blue compact galaxy = HERC-13088 in order to measure its size, light profiles, and color. The = observation was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed S/C 5582 (FOC/48 Monthly Activation (Camera Section = Only): Cycle 4) This proposal was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) = The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy = 3C318.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's = morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6182 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5: Photometric = Transformation) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of standard field object = Omega Cen (aka, NGC-5139) to check the photometric calibration and = stability of the WF/PC-2. Numerous filters were used. The observations = were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FOS/RD 6110 (Abundances of Evolved Massive Stars in the = LMC) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the ejecta from the evolved luminous = massive star R127 which is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. This = star is at a point in its evolution between an O class star and a = Wolf-Rayet class star, and the spectra will be used to determine the = elemental abundances and electron temperatures and densities. Just before = this proposal began, there were two FHST update failures. Nevertheless, = the observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems with the = proposal were reported.. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 8 Updates at 030/2310Z and 030/2313Z failed. 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations moved to the SAMS backup facility at 031/0926Z this = morning for an expected eight-hour period.
