HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1564 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 02/05/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 02/06/96 Daily Status Report as of 037/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of S/C 6843 (Test of Technique to Avoid FGS1 = Stalls) Special test were conducted using FGS #1 to test a technique for = avoiding FGS stalls. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed GHRS/2 5310 (AB Doradus: the Key Object of Stellar = Activity) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to to make = spectral observations of AB Doradus (aka, HD36705) which is known for the = strongest chormospheric and transition region of any star. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6345 (Determining the Binary = Frequency for Ultra-Cool, Nearby M Dwarf Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of ultra-cool, nearby, M = class dwarf star LP944-20 to determine the frequency for it being a binary = system, and to try to detect stellar and sub-stellar companions. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6344 (Low - Mass Binaries in the Hyades - = Completing the Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary = star RHY200 (M-Class Dwarf Stars) which is located in the Hyades Cluster. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FOS/BL 5843 (First Ultraviolet Spectrographic Survey of = 2060 Charon) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the deep solar-system object = 2060-Chiron while it is near perihelion. This will provide information on = the properties of the surface of Chrion and the gas surrounding it. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FGS 6177 (Intermediate Plate Scale Calibration) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of stars = 4727-25, HD65949, et al to perform an intermediate plate scale calibration = in the central region of the FGS. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and non anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6101 (The Young Double Cluster NGC-1850 in the = Large Magellanic Cloud) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the young double = cluster NGC-1850 which is located in the Large Magellanic cloud. Each = component is reported to have different ages, mass functions, and spatial = distributions. The observations were completed as planned, and no = anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6841 (The Nucleus of Comet H-M-P) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometry and colorimetry = observations of the nuclear region of Comet-45P (aka, Comet = Honda-Markos-Pajdusakova) during its close approach to Earth. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.9 Completed Two Sets of FGS 6037 (Continuation of an Astrometric = Search for Planetary Companions to Proxima-Cent) The FGSs were used in the POS mode to make astrometric observations = of the star Proxima-Cent and a sub-set of eight reference stars. This is = to look for the presence of a planetary companion. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6179 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5: Photometric = Zero Point) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of photometric standard = star HZ-44 in order to calibrate the photometric zero point. The = calibration was done for eighteen WF/PC filters. The observations were = executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.11 Completed FOS/BL 5515 (Eclipse Mapping of the Touchstone Systems = CM-Dra Cycle 4 Medium) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used in the rapid = mode to make observations of the Touchstone System CM-Draconis (aka, = GL630.1) to do eclipse mapping. The objective is to map the upper = atmosphere of the M4Ve class component of CM Dra by measuring the = disappearance of light during the eclipse of the secondary. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 25 Successful : 25 2.3 Operations Notes: ESTR #2 remains powered off. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: The first GSFC internal simulation for the second servicing = mission is scheduled for tomorrow. /DMH
