HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1569 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 02/12/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 02/13/96 Daily Status Report as of 044/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low-Mass Binaries and Luminosity Fuction) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low-mass binary = system NGP007 (late type class M dwarf stars). The intent is to determine = why the local stellar luminosity function is flat below Mv=3D12, while = that found from more distant stars falls by an order of magnitude by = Mv=3D14. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.2 Completed FGS 6270 (The Parallax of RW Tri) The FGS were used in the POS mode to make astrometric observations = of old nova RW Tri and several other reference stars to measure its = parallax. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed GHRS/1 5896 (Detailed Studies of High Velocity Ionized = Gas in Galactic Disks) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = observations of star HD37742 in order to study high velocity ionized gas = in its line of sight to help study the gas in our galactic disk. The = observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6345 (Determining the Binary Frequency for = Ultra-Cool, Nearby M Dwarf Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of ultra-cool, nearby, M = class dwarf star LP412-31 to determine the frequency for it being a binary = system and try to detect stellar and sub-stellar companions. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed FOS/BL 6103 (Ne VIII 774 Emission From QSOs) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = observations of QSO PKS0355-48 in order to study its Ne VIII 774 = emissions. Confirmation of this very high ionization line would tell much = about the physical conditions within the QSO. A wavelength calibration = image was also taken. The observations were completed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6344 (Low - Mass Binaries in the Hyades - = Completing the Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary = star RHY143 (M-Class dwarf stars) which is located in the Hyades Cluster. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5989 (Imaging of CL1358+62 and Its Environs: the = Morphology-Density Relation)) The WF/PC-2 was used to make imaging observations of galactic = cluster CL1358+62 (aka, Gal-Clus-1) in order to study the morphology of = the galaxy as a function of its position in the cluster. The observations = were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed FOS/BL 6109 (Spectropolarimetry of Low Redshift Quasars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = spectropolargraphic observations of the low redshifted quasar 0117+213. = The wavelength range of interest is from 200 Angstroms below the Lyman = limit to just above Lyman-Alpha. The observations were completed as = planned, and no problems were reported. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky survey = observation at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with the = prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 12 Successful : 12 2.3 Operations Notes: HST/GRTS, a ground facility intended to be used for support during = TDRSS ZOEs, was scheduled and used to successfully execute HST operations. ESTR #2 remains powered off. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: The completion of GSFC Simulation #1 will be executed this = afternoon in an approximate four-hour time period. /DMH
