HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1572 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 02/15/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 02/16/96 Daily Status Report as of 047/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Four Sets of FOS/RD 6236 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of = Spectra and Wavelength Calibration: Red Side Detector) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = calibration observations in order to determine the location of the spectra = and to perform a wavelength calibration. All observations were internal. = A Taled calibration was also completed. The observations were completed = as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions of Planetary = Nebula Nuclei) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = planetary nebula NGC-3242 to study its nuclei and to look for possible = companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.3 Completed FGS 6157 (Parallaxes of Hyades Cluster Members, Cycle 5 - = High) The FGSs were used to make several POS Mode astrometric = observations of members (set PCEN310, VA310, AST50-REF, et al) of the = Hyades Cluster in order to measure their parallaxes. The observations = were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6184 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Photometric Calibration = Monitor UV/OPT STD) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet and optical observations = of standard star GRW+70D582 in order to monitor the photometric = calibrations of the camera and to check for decontamination. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6344 (Low - Mass Binaries in the Hyades - = Completing the Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary = star RHY162 (M-Class Dwarf Stars) which is located in the Hyades Cluster. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed GHRS/2/1 6064 (Companions to TC-Deficient S and MS Stars) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Both Sides One and Two) was used = to make observations of star HD49368 in order to study Technetium (TC) = deficiency in S and MS class stars. It is thought that the abundance = anomalies in this class of stars may be caused by mass transfer from a = companion star. The observations were completed as planned, and no = problems were reported. 1.8 Completed FGS/WF/PC-2 6062 (HD98800, An Extraordinary Star) The WF/PC-2 and the FGSs were used to observe HD98800, a nearby = multiple star with strong infrared emission. The infrared emission = presumably comes from a thick disc around the system. The proposal will = measure the strength of the Mg II line at 2800A, and will adress the = fundamental questions about disk formation, maintenance, and dynamics. = During this proposal, as documented in HSTAR 5503, there was a GHRS coarse = X and Y null balance failure. Otherwise, the observations executed as = scheduled, and no other anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5989 (Imaging of CL1358+62 and Its Environs: the = Morphology-Density Relation)) The WF/PC-2 was used to make imaging observations of galactic = cluster CL1358+62 (aka, Gal-Clus-1) in order to study the morphology of = the galaxy as a function of its position in the cluster. The observations = were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FGS 5657 (Duplicity Among Hyades Stars: Cycle 4 High) The FGSs (TRANS-Mode) were used to make astrometric observations of = star VA351 located in the Hyades cluster in an attempt to find a close = binary. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 18 Successful : 18 2.3 Operations Notes: ESTR #2 remains powered off. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: A PSEA/RSU #1 test will begin this afternoon at approximately = 047/1900Z. /DMH
