HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1576 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 02/22/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 02/23/96 Daily Status Report as of 054/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky survey = observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with = the prime science observations. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of FOS/BL 6166 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of = Spectra and Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = wavelength calibration images to measure the stability of the FOS blue = side wavelength scale and spectral locations. A Taled calibration = observation was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed FGS 6151 (Masses of Pre-main Sequence Stars: Cycle 4 = GO/CAL) The FGSs were used to make observations of the pre-main sequence = binary star ZZ-Tau located in the Taurus star forming region. The FGS = data will provide the apparent orbits needed to compute the total mass of = the system. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6358 (UV Imaging of Circumnuclear Starburst = Rings) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet snapshot observations of = galaxy NGC-6574 in order to study its circumnuclear starburst rings. A = homogeneous database of properties of the star-forming region will be = generated. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6129 (The Structure, Polarization, and Evolution = of the Crab Synchrotron Nebula) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the area near = Crab-Pulsar (M-1) in order to study its structure, polarization, and = evolution. Two color and polarization images were made. The observations = were executed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6365 (A Snapshot Survey For Companions and = Clusters around Wolf-Rayet Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the = Wolf-Rayet star WR147 in order to look for companion stars and clusters. = Photometry was performed on the Wolf-Rayet star and its associated stars. = The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were = reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low-Mass Binaries and Luminosity Fuction) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low-mass binary = system NGP013 (Late Type Class M dwarf stars). The intent is to determine = why the local stellar luminosity function is flat below Mv=3D12, while = that found from more distant stars falls by an order of magnitude by = Mv=3D14. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5898 (Photometry of Candidate Dwarf Spheroidal = Galaxies in the M-81 Group) The WF/PC-2 was used to make two color photometric observations of = the dwarf candidate spheroidal galaxy Gal-100441 (dSph class) which is = located in the M-81 galactic cluster group. The color-magnitude diagrams = will be constructed, which will allow for the determination of various = physical properties for the candidate dwarf spheroids. The observations = were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5841 (Unidentified Extreme UV sources and = Isolated Neutron Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the unidentified = extreme ultraviolet source RE0922+710. This object was detected by the = ROSAT and EUVE satellites. No optical counterparts to this sources have = yet been identified, and its position is only known to about one = arcminute. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems = were reported. 1.11 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the Bulges of = Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of spiral = galaxy NGC-2748 in order to study its central bulge. The aim is to = investigate the core properties, correlation's with global galactic = properties, and the frequency of occurrence of multiple and/or miscentered = nuclei. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.12 Completed FOS/RD 6025 (Consequences of the Shoemaker-Levy Impact = With Jupiter) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the planet Jupiter in order to study the = consequences from the impact of the comet Shoemaker-Levy. This is to = study the atmosphere following the impact to measure the chemical = abundances as a function of time. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.13 Completed WF/PC-2 6092 (Disk Globular Clusters in Edge-On Spiral = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the edge-on spiral = galaxy NGC-4565 in order to study its disk globular clusters. The = question is whether the thick disk in spiral galaxies results from = accretion of one or more satellite galaxies. The observations were = completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 11 Successful : 11 2.3 Operations Notes: ESTR #2 remains powered off. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
