HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1583 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/04/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/05/96 Daily Status Report as of 065/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5839 (Gamma Ray Burst Counterparts in the = Ultraviolet) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet observations of object = GRB920406 which is thought to be an optical counterpart of a gamma ray = burster. Three filters from the blue to the ultraviolet were used. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6365 (A Snapshot survey For = Companions and Clusters around Wolf-Rayet Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of Wolf-Rayet = star WR30A in order to look for companion stars and clusters. Photometry = was performed on the Wolf-Rayet star and its associated stars. The = observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed FGS 6269 (Parallax of TV COL) The FGSs were used to measure the parallax of variable X-Ray star = TV COL. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.4 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy IR19254-72. These data will be searched for = multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and for starburst = regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.6 Completed FOC/96 6846 (Observations of Neptune and Pluto for the = "Live From HST" Television) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of the = planet Pluto. This object was selected by students involved in the = Passport to Knowledge program. The observations were completed as = planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6094 (Kinematics of Nuclear Gas Disks in Nearby = Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the nearby radio = galaxy NGC-4374 (aka, m-84 and 3C272.1) in order to study the kinematics = of its nuclear gas disk and to look for a black hole. Ground based = observational data shows that a nuclear disk of ionized gas exists. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.9 Completed GHRS/1 5891 (Structurally Resolved Abundances and = Depletions in the Rho Oph Cloud) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make high = resolution spectral observations of star HD143275 which is located within = the Rho Orpiuchi Cloud in order to study its structurally resolved = elemental abundances and depletions in different parts of the cloud. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5939 (Evolution in the Isotropic Properties of = BL Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the BL Lac object = QSO1308+32 in order to study its evolution and isotropic properties. = During each of the two acquisitions during this proposal, guidance failed = to fine lock backup on FGS #3 only. Each occurrence affected six = observations. No other problems were reported. 1.11 Completed GHRS/2 5854 (Cepheid Masses) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = observations of the blue, main sequence companion of Cepheid star HD183344 = to determine the mass of the system. The orbital radial velocity will be = measured to provide the mass ratio of the stars. A wavelength calibration = image was also taken. The observations were executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 7 The acquisitions at 064/144952Z and 064/162601Z both failed to fine = lock backup, guiding on FGS-3 only. HSTARs 5526 and 5527 were written. Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 20 Successful : 20 2.3 Operations Notes: No operational problems were encountered. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: GSFC internal Simulation #2 (EVA #1: STIS/NICMOS Installation) is = scheduled tomorrow. /DMH
