HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1584 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/05/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/06/96 Daily Status Report as of 066/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5924 (Nuclear Emission Line Region Associated = with Compact Flat Spectrum) The WF/PC-2 was used to make spectrographic observations of the = nuclear emission region of galaxy NGC-984 to study its compact flat = spectrum. There is evidence that this jet-produced AGN is powered by = accretion disks feeding massive black hole. The observations were = executed as schedule, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FGS 6037 (Continuation of an Astrometric Search for = Planetary Companions to Proxima-Cent) The FGSs were used in the POS mode to make astrometric observations = of the star Proxima-Cent and a sub-set of eight reference stars. This is = to look for the presence of a planetary companion. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed FGS 6049 (Monitoring the Size and Shape of Mira Type = Stars) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the Mira = class star HD847748 in order to study its size and shape during different = phases of its pulsation cycle. The observations were completed as = planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6278 (Faint Clusters of Galaxies(WC09): Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make two color image observations of the = faint galactic cluster GAL-CLUST-13 which is at a redshift of 0.72 . The = primary objective of this study is to investigate the color and = morphological evolution of this galactic cluster. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.7 Completed GHRS/1 6081 (Understanding the Simplest Symbiotic = Systems) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = proof-of-concept spectrographic observations of the star HD117970 (aka, RW = Hya) in order to obtain an understanding of this simplest symbiotic binary = systems. One component is a red giant, and the other is a hot star. The = observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed GHRS/1 6083 (The Expanding Chromosphere of a Star) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = Lyman-Alpha emission spectrographic observations of the A class star = HD187642 in order to study its expanding chromosphere. The observations = were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy IR19297-04. These data will be searched for = multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and for starburst = regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 10 2.3 Operations Notes: Regular HST operations personnel transitioned to the SAMS backup = facility at 066/0300Z. They will remain there through the conclusion of = Simulation #2. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: GSFC Internal Simulation #2 (EVA #1: STIS/NICMOS Installation) is = scheduled today from approximately 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. /DMH
