HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1586 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/07/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/08/96 Daily Status Report as of 068/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host = Galaxies of BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations to BL-Lac = object MS1133.7+1 in order to study its environment and its host galaxies. = The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy types, = unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FOS/BL 6489 (The Identification and Cooling of the White = Dwarf in WZ SGE Like Systems) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the white dwarf nova in the AL Com system. = AL Com, like WZ Sge, has outburst that last months and are separated by = decades. Al Com went though an outburst in the spring of 1995. The = observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6345 (Determining the Binary = Frequency for Ultra-Cool, Nearby M Dwarf Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of ultra-cool, nearby, M = class dwarf star LHS2924 to determine the frequency of it being a binary = system and try to detect stellar and sub-stellar companions. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6099 (Black Holes and Cores of Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to search for possible black holes in the = cores of nearby early-type galaxy NGC-5845. The WF/PC-2 will be used to = obtain high resolution images of several galaxies to identify those with = bright cores, and to provide sufficiently accurate coordinates for the = FOS, which will be used to measure the velocity dispersion around selected = galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky survey = observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with = the prime science observations. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 13 Successful : 13 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations reported no significant problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
