HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1598 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/25/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/26/96 Daily Status Report as of 086/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 6262 (High Speed Astrometry - Barnard's Star) The Fine Guidance Sensors were used to make high speed astrometric = observations of Barnard's Star and seven reference stars. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6424 (Calibrations of Stellar Evolutionary Ages = and Variations in the LMF) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the relatively old = open cluster NGC-2477 to determine the luminosity and mass function (LMF) = of the white dwarfs and low mass (i.e., red) stars and to make a = calibration study of stellar evolutionary ages. The observations was = executed as scheduled and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Five Sets of FOC/96 5944 (The Featureless Continuum and The = Star Burst AGN Connection in Seyfert II Galaxies) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of = type II Seyfert galaxy MRK477 to study the almost featureless blue = continuum radiation in its active galactic nuclei. Spectrographic = detection of P-Cygni type absorption features would be evidence for the = presence of luminous OB stars. Wave length calibration images were also = taken. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 5 As recorded in HSTAR 5548, the acquisition at 086/011752Z failed. An approximate 45-minute loss of lock was experienced at = 086/034125Z. HSTAR 5549 was written. Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Operations Notes: The Battery #3 Capacity Check has been completed. The RGAs were = commanded to low mode at 086/0048Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
