HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1611 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/11/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/12/96 Daily Status Report as of 103/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 6036 (Detection and Mass Determination of Low Mass = Companions to nearby M Dwarf) The FGSs were used in both the POS and TRANS Modes to make = astrometric observations of low mass companions to M class dwarf star = GJ1081 and four reference stars. This will lead to a mass determination = for the stars. The observations were completed as planned, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5990 (Globular Clusters in the Fornax Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to search for globular clusters in galaxy = Field-0336 which is a member of the Fornax Galactic Cluster. Because the = galaxies in the Fornax Cluster have different morphologies than those of = the Local Group, the globular cluster systems are also expected to show = differences. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FOS/BL 6112 (UV-Bright Liners and the AGN Connection) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = observations of the active galactic nuclei of the LINER galaxy NGC-4569 = (which is known to have a ultraviolet bright nuclei). The objectives are = to study the ultraviolet properties of LINERs and to relate them to = active galactic nuclei (AGNs) as a whole. The observations were executed = as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the Bulges of Spiral = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = spiral galaxy NGC-3898 in order to study its central bulge. The aim is = to investigate the core properties, correlation's with global galactic = properties, and the frequency of occurrence of multiple and/or = miscentered nuclei. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 6044 (Carbon in the ISM of Spirals) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to obtain = ultraviolet and optical spectra of the H II regions in the spiral galaxy = NGC-5471. The intent is to derive the C abundances and C/O ratios at = several positions in this galaxy. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5167 (Jovian Auroral Lyman-Alpha Profile: Cycle = 4 ) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the northern auroral = regions of the planet Jupiter to study the excitation processes and = atmospheric properties in this region. The observations were completed = as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxy 3C343.1 = to study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 14 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational events. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
