HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1614 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/16/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/17/96 Daily Status Report as of 108/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of FOS/RD 6163 (Focus, X-Pitch and Y-Pitch) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to determine the = proper values to set for the FOS high voltage, and the X and Y pitch. A = dark and a wavelength calibration image were also taken. The observations= were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. = The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6431 (Determination of the Extragalactric = Distance Scale) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-4548 = to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this = galaxy. This will allow for a more accurate estimate of the distances to = these galaxies through the period-luminosity relation for the Cepheid = stars. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.4 Completed FOS/RD 6059 (Imaging Low-Mass Companions of Nearby = Stars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = observations of low-mass nearby star Wolf424 to search for possible faint = companions. The bright star was placed behind an occulting bar. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration = observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were = taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the = cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host = Galaxies of BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac object 1ES1106+24 in order to study its environment and its host = galaxies. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy = type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6129 (The Structure, Polarization, and Evolution = of the Crab Synchrotron Nebula) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the area near = Crab-Pulsar (M-1) in order to study its structure, polarization, and = evolution. Two color and polarization images were made. The = observations were executed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed GHRS/2 5833 (The Nature of Lyman Alpha Emission From = Galaxies) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = ultraviolet observations of galaxy ESO203431 in order to study its = Lyman-Alpha Emission. Previous HST exposures suggest the photons are = scattered before they escape from the galaxy. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Operations Notes: A relatively quiet operational day was experienced by HST = personnel. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
