HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1615 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/17/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/18/96 Daily Status Report as of 109/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6364 (Snapshot Survey of Proto-Planetary Nebulae = and AGB Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some snapshot survey observations of = protoplanetary nebular system IRAS19374 to study its circumstellar = envelope. The purpose is to discern the evolutionary sequence that = produces axially-symmetric planetary nebulae. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host = Galaxies of BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac object PG1437+398 in order to study its environment and its host = galaxies. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy = type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5997 (The Cores of Elliptical Galaxies in the = Coma Cluster) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the large elliptical = galaxy IC3618 which is located in the Coma Cluster. The purpose is to = study the luminosity profiles in the central nuclear region. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxy 3C252.0 = to study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5898 (Photometry of Candidate Dwarf Spheroidal = Galaxies in the M-81 Group) The WF/PC-2 was used to make two color photometric observations of = the dwarf candidate spheroidal galaxy GAL-094447 (dSph class) which is = located in the M-81 galactic cluster group. The color-magnitude diagrams = will be constructed, which will allow for the determination of various = physical properties for the candidate dSphs. The observations were = completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed FGS 6054 (FGS Observations of Halo Population Binaries) The FGSs were used in the TRANS mode to make astrometric = observations of the spectroscopic binary star HD20039. From the FGS = scans, the separation, position angles, and magnitude difference of the = two stars will be obtained. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.8 Completed FOS/BL 6242 (Binaries in Globular Clusters (FOS 37): = Time-Resolved Spectra) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make rapid mode = spectrographic observations of the X-ray burst binary source located in = the globular cluster NGC-6624. Simultaneously X-ray observations will be = obtained using the XTE satellite. The orbital period of the X-ray binary = system is thought to be 11 minutes. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5839 (Gamma Ray Burst Counterparts in the = Ultraviolet) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet observations of object = GRB790406 which is thought to be an optical counterpart of a gamma ray = burster. Three filters from the blue to the ultraviolet were used. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 12 Successful : 12 2.3 Operations Notes: No problems were encountered during the on-orbit testing of PDB = 44.B/PRS 9.2. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
