HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1616 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/18/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/19/96 Daily Status Report as of 110/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5994 (HST Images of New Candidates For Distant = Proto-Ellipticals) The WF/PC-2 was used to make an observation of blue compact galaxy = SA57-4259 in order to measure its size, light profiles, and color. The = observation was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of FOS/RD 6236 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of = Spectra and Wavelength Calibration: Red Side Detector) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = calibration observations in order to determine the location of the = spectra and to perform a wavelength calibration. All observations were = internal. A Taled calibration was also completed. The observations were = completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the Bulges of Spiral = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = spiral galaxy NGC-2964 in order to study its central bulge. The aim is = to investigate the core properties, correlation's with global galactic = properties, and the frequency of occurrence of multiple and/or = miscentered nuclei. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed GHRS/1 5871 (Rapid UV Variability: The Contribution of = Flare Heating) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used in the rapid = mode to make ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the late type = star YZ-CMI which has an active chromosphere to study the rapid = variability of its emission lines. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6353 (A Snapshot Emission Line Imaging Survey of = Very Low Excitation Planetary Nebulas) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations as part to an = emission line survey of the very low excitation planetary nebula = PK146+07D1 (Class PNe). This target was selected based on the O III/H = alpha line flux ratio. The observations were executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed GHRS/1 5877 (The 11B to 10B Ratio in the Interstellar = Medium.) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the bright star HD149757 in order to study = the foreground interstellar medium. This is to measure the abundance = ratio of two boron isotopes. The observations were completed as planned, = and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6329 (A Photometric Search for Planets of Nearby = Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric observations of nearby = star BD+4D3561 in order to search for planets. The technique involves = use of the Planetary Camera with narrow and wide bandpass filters to = measure photometrically the presence of resolved dark companions. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 20 Successful : 20 2.3 Operations Notes: HSTAR 5569 was written to document FGS-3 star selector differences = which occurred in the SAA. The Star Selector Compensation Error B = flagged high twice in a one-second period. Later, Star Selector = Difference B-A flagged low and remained that way until the following = guide star acquisition. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
