HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1618 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/22/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/23/96 Daily Status Report as of 114/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6364 (Snapshot Survey of Proto-Planetary Nebulae = and AGB Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some snapshot survey observations of = protoplanetary nebular system IRAS04386 to study its circumstellar = envelope. The purpose is to discern the evolutionary sequence that = produces axially-symmetric planetary nebulae. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FOS/BL 6202 (Cycle 5 FOS Spectral Flat field = Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = observations of the white, relatively featureless, white dwarf star = WD0501+527 in order to make flat field calibration images. The = observations were made through the 1.0 aperture, with all usable = detector/disperser combinations. The observations were executed as = schedule, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. = The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.5 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5997 (The Cores of Elliptical Galaxies in the = Coma Cluster) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the large elliptical = galaxy IC4021 which is located in the Coma Cluster. The purpose is to = study the luminosity profiles in the central nuclear region. As = documented in HSTAR 5579, the primary guide star acquisition at = 113/133300Z failed. Two of the observaions for this proposal were = affected. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.8 Completed FOC/96 6057 (Ultra--High Resolution Studies of AGNs II: = 3C279 Proper Motion) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make ultra-high = resolution observations of active galactic nuclei in radio galaxy 3C279 = in order to study the small scale morphology of the AGN. The data will = be searched for evidence of superluminal motion, which is known radio = observations, and for time variable phenomena. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky = survey observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel = with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5910 (The Far-Field Hubble Constant) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the Abel galaxy cluste= r ABELL3742 in order to determine the HST Far-Field Hubble constant. The = observations were executed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 8 See 1.7 for details of the failure. Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 12 Successful : 12 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operations problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
