HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1619 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/23/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/24/96 Daily Status Report as of 115/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. = The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.2 Completed FOS/RD 6025 (Consequences of the Shoemaker-Levy Impact = With Jupiter) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the planet Jupiter in order to study the = consequences from the impact of the comet Shoemaker-Levy. This is to = study the atmosphere following the impact to measure the chemical = abundances as a function of time. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6365 (A Snapshot Survey For = Companions and Clusters around Wolf-Rayet Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of Wolf-Rayet = stars WR85 and WR148 in order to look for companion stars and clusters. = Photometry was performed on the Wolf-Rayet stars and associated stars. = The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were = reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6835 (The Detail Morphology of Post-Merger = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the post-merger = galaxy GAL-0158-4 in order to study its morphology. This galaxy has = little or no on-going star formation and a significant population of = young stars. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FOC/96 5835 (The Structure of the Inner Coma of the = Comet Chiron) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of = the object/comet 2060 Chiron in order to study its inner coma. The goals = are to map the structure and color of the inner coma. The observations = were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration = observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were = taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the = cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host Galaxies of = BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac object MS0607.9+7 in order to study its environment and its host = galaxy. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy = type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed FOS/BL 6202 (Cycle 5 FOS Spectral Flat field = Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = observations of the relatively featureless white dwarf star WD0501+527 in = order to make flat field calibration images. The observations were made = through the 1.0 aperture, with all usable detector/disperser = combinations. The observations were executed as schedule, and no = anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Operations Notes: Preparations were begun for the transfer of operations to the SAMS = backup facility to allow for LAN work to proceed in the MOR area. = However, the MVIP graphics pages did not transfer electronically and the = shift supervisor elected not to make the move as scheduled. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
