HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1620 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/24/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/25/96 Daily Status Report as of 116/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed S/C 5582 (FOC/48 Monthly Activation (Camera Section = Only): Cycle 4) This proposal was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.2 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6360 (A Snapshot Survey of "Radio Load" IRAS = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = radio load IRAS galaxy GAL-1011+1. The WF/PC-2 was used to discern high = surface brightness structures in its post-starburst active nuclear = regions. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were reported 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6849 (A Photometric Search For Planets of Nearby = Stars: GTO Prop. Continuation) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a photometric search of the nearby = star L145-141 to look for possible planets. Images through both the wide = and narrow-band filters were obtained. The observations were completed = as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.5 Completed Five Sets of FOS/BL 6166 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of Spectr= a and Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = wavelength calibration images to measure the stability of the FOS Blue = Side wavelength scale and spectral locations. A Taled calibration = observation was also taken. All observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5997 (The Cores of Elliptical Galaxies in the = Coma Cluster) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the large elliptical = galaxies NGC-4886, IC4001 and NGC4889 which are located in the Coma = Cluster. The purpose is to study the luminosity profiles in the central = nuclear region. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6431 (Determination of the Extragalactric = Distance Scale) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-4548 = to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this = galaxy. This will allow for a more accurate estimate of the distances to = these galaxies through the period-luminosity relation for the Cepheid = stars. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5920 (Extragalactic Globular Cluster System) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations to compile a catalogue = of the extragalactic globular clusters in galaxy NGC-5846. A luminosity = function will be derived which should be complete down to the 27th = magnitude in V. The observations was completed as planned, and no = problems were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 6761 (The Origin of Shock Emission in = Proto-Planetary Nebulae) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the bi-polar = proto-planetary nebula M1-92 in order to study the origin of its shock = emissions. The objective is to characterize the mass loss during the = transition to planetary nebula status. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 10 2.3 Operations Notes: Operations moved to the SAMS backup facility for the period = 115/1400Z to 1116/0000Z.
