HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1640 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/22/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/23/96 Daily Status Report as of 144/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.2 Completed GHRS/1/2 6413 (High Velocity Thermal Shock Instabilities = in the Vela Supernova Remnant) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Both Sides One and Two) was used = to make high resolution and high signal-to-noise ratio observations of = the star HD72997. Ultraviolet light from this star passes through the = Vela supernova remnant and the absorption lines can be used to study high = velocity thermal shock instabilities in the nebula. The observations = were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Three Sets of FOS/BL 6166 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of = Spectra and Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = wavelength calibration images to measure the stability of the FOS Blue = Side wavelength scale and spectral locations. A Taled calibration = observations was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5925 (The Polarization and Emission Line = Morphology of Protogalaxy Candidates) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the protogalaxy = candidate/radio source 3C256 in order to study its polarization and = emission line morphology. The extremely blue color of this object may be = caused by star formation, or by scattering of non-stellar continuum light = from the nucleus. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.6 Completed GHRS/2 6534 (Be-Deficient Halo Stars: Implications For = Galactic Chemical Evolution) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = observations of the beryllium deficient halo star HD94028 to help study = the galactic chemical evolution. The objective is to measure the = abundance of boron in this star, and compare this with the abundances of = Be and Li. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 14 Successful : 14 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 4 Successful : 4 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations transferred to the SAMS back-up facility for the = period 143/1600Z to 144/0000Z so that LAN re-configuration activities = could proceed in the MOR area. No problems were encountered. There were no poly errors in the one science tape recorder dump = performed today. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
