HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1641 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/23/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/24/96 Daily Status Report as of 145/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of FOS/BL 6166 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of = Spectra and Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = wavelength calibration images to measure the stability of the FOS Blue = Side wavelength scale and spectral locations. A Taled calibration = observation was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were reported. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the = Ultraluminous IRAS Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxies Qdotulir13 and IR09427+19. These data will = be searched for multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and = for starburst regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FOS/BL 6781 (Soft X-Rays and the UV Spectra of a = Complete QSO Sample) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to obtain = ultraviolet spectra of the low-Z quasi-stellar object PG1444+407. The = ionization continuum of this object has been studied using the ROSAT = satellite. The strengths and line profiles of strong and weak = ultraviolet emission and absorption lines and the ultraviolet continuum = were studied. The observations were completed as planned and no = anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.5 Completed FOS/96 6309 (Determining the SED of an Ultraviolet Flare = at the Center of an Elliptical Galaxy.) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of an = ultraviolet flare at the center of the elliptical galaxy NGC-4552 which = brightened in luminosity from 1991 to 1993 by over a factor of seven. = The purpose of the observations is to measure the spectral energy = distribution (SED) of this flare. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/BL 6333 (Physical Conditions in the Narrow-Lined = Region) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = observations of the active galactic nuclei located in the Seyfert galaxy = NGC-3393 in order to determine the physical conditions in its narrow line = region. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = encountered. 1.7 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make two long exposures medium deep sky = survey observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel = with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/BL 6766 (Narrow Line Seyfert 1S and the Iron Enigma = in Active Galaxies) The FOS (Blue Side) was used to make observations of the 1S class = narrow lined Seyfert galaxy AKN564 in order to study its iron enigma. = These data should show correlations between its x-ray spectra, = kinematics, and Fe II spectra. The observations were completed as = planned and no problems were reported 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 06 Successful : 06 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 16 Successful : 16 2.3 Operations Notes: Normal operations, no anomalies to report. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: SM2 Simulation #5 (HST Deploy) will be held Thursday, May 30, = from 8 AM. to 5 PM. /DMH
