HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1643 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/28/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/29/96 Daily Status Report as of 150/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOC/96 6349 (Snapshot Search for High Redshift QSOs with = Far-UV Flux) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make snapshot images of = the quasi-stellar object Q1453-195. This is to determine if this high = redshifted object has a far ultraviolet flux. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FOS/RD 6704 (Dust in the Bond-Line Regions of Seyfert = Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side)was used to make = observations of the Seyfert galaxy NGC-3786 in order to study the dust in = its Bond-Lines region. The observations were executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6183 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Decon) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some internal flat, K-Spot, and dark = calibration images. The purpose is to define decontamination procedures = to be run during Cycle 5. A calibration image of object 0Z-010 was also = taken. The calibration observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed GHRS/2 6493 (Accretion in the Interacting Binary UX = Monoceros) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = observations of the accretion in the interacting contact binary star = system HD65607 (aka, UX Monoceros). As noted in yesterday's report, the = FHST update just before the initiation of this proposal failed. = Otherwise, the observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems = were reported. 1.5 Completed FOS/BL 6433 (Ne Absorption Lines in the Spectrum of the = QSO HS 1700+6416) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = observations of the quasi-stellar object HS-1700+646 looking for = absorption lines from Ne. The observations were completed as planned, = and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed FOC/96 6306 (Supernova Light Echoes) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of = supernovae remnant SM1960L in order to study its light echoes. Measuring = the separation of the echo from the site of the supernova gives a direct = measure of the distance to the parent galaxy. The echoes are expected to = be very blue, and highly polarized. The observations were completed as = planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program, taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 9 Successful : 9 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no reported operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: GSFC Internal Simulation #5 (Deploy) is scheduled to occur = tomorrow. /DMH
