HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1644 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/29/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/30/96 Daily Status Report as of 151/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5505 (Deep Probes of Gravitational Lens Systems) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep images of of the elliptical = galaxy 0023+171 which is a member of the Coma Cluster. The intent is to = improve our understanding of the stellar populations in ellipticals and = to determine the distance to the Coma Cluster. The observations were = completed and planned, and no problems were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6364 (Snapshot Survey of Proto-Planetary Nebulae = and AGB Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some snapshot survey observations of = protoplanetary nebular system IRAS08005 to study its circumstellar = envelope. The purpose is to discern the evolutionary sequence that = produces axially-symmetric planetary nebulae. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed GHRS/2 6493 (Accretion in the Interacting Binary UX = Monoceros) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = observations of the accretion in the interacting contact binary star = system HD65607 (aka, UX Monoceros). This system is a Algol type of = binary star system that exhibits properties that are like intermediate = ordinary Algol and W Sepentis systems. The observations were completed = as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed GHRS/1 6433 (Ne Absorption Lines in the Spectrum of the = QSO HS 1700+6416) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the high red shift quasi-stellar object = HS-1700+646 looking for absorption lines from Ne in the wavelength region = of 1450 - 17750 A0. This wavelength region for this object has not been = observed at high enough S/N to allow quantition spectroscopy. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 6704 (Dust in the Broad-Lined Regions of Seyfert = Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = observations of the Seyfert galaxy NGC-2622 in order to study dust in its = broad-line Balmer regions and weak nonstellar continuum. Its = characteristics may be caused by dust in the line of sight, or low = optical depth and low ionization parameter in the Broad Line Region. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 16 Successful : 16 2.3 Operations Notes: In preparation for the simulation being conducted today, HST = operations transferred to the SAMS back-up facility at 151/0200Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: GSFC Simulation#5 (HST Deploy) will be conducted today from = approximately 8:00 a.m until 5:00 p.m. /DMH
