HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1645 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/30/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/31/96 Daily Status Report as of 152/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.2 Completed GHRS/1/2 6594 (White Dwarf Companions of Barium and CH = Peculiar Stars) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Sides One and Two) was used to = attempt to make spectrographic observations of the white dwarf of the = Barium and CH Peculiar class star HD40808. This will test the theory = that abundance anomalies in this star caused by mass transfer from the = precursor of the white dwarf. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5997 (The Cores of Elliptical Galaxies in the = Coma Cluster) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the large elliptical = galaxies NGC-4957 and Gal-131208 which are located in the Coma Cluster. = The purpose is to study the luminosity profiles in their central nuclear = regions. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6888 (Scattered Emissions From the Active = Nucleus Buried in NGC-4258) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the buried active = nuclear region and its surrounding disk of galaxy NGC-4258 to study its = scattered ultraviolet emission lines. The observations were completed as = planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6557 (WF/PC-2 Imaging of Intermediate Redshift = Absorption Selected Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy Q1623 = where a halo appears to be absorbing light from the background = quasi-stellar object (QSO). The observations were completed as planned, = and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy IR13428+56. These data will be searched for = multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and for starburst = regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6533 (Shock Fronts of Protoplanetary Nebulae) The WF/PC-2 was used to make narrow and medium band observations = of the shock fronts in the protoplanetary nebula system (class PPNe) = M1-92. The interaction between the Active Giant Branch AGB object and = the post-AGB stellar winds is thought to be the dominant factor that = determines the evolution and shape of the PPNe. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed FGS 6268 (The Parallax of NGC-6853) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations in order = measure the parallax to NGC-6853, one of the nearest planetary neabulae. = The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host = Galaxies of BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac objects PKS2005 and H1426+428 in order to study their environment = and their host galaxies. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in = host galaxy type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion = galaxies, etc. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FOS/RD 6577 (An Expanded Survey for Study of the = Lyman-Alpha Line and QSO Mg II Absorption) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = observations of the QSO B21148+38 in order to make a survey of the = Lyman-Alpha line and the 68 Mg II absorption line system. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 17 Successful : 17 2.3 Operations Notes: GSFC Internal Simulation #5 (HST Deploy) was successfully = conducted yesterday.
