HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1650 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 06/06/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 06/07/96 Daily Status Report as of 159/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/RD 6704 (Dust in the Broad-Lined Regions of Seyfert = Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = observations of the Seyfert galaxy MRK516 in order to study dust in its = broad-line Balmer regions and weak nonstellar continuum. Its = characteristics may be caused by dust in the line of sight, or low = optical depth and low ionization parameters in the Broad Line Region. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.2 Completed FOC/96 6891 (Imaging and Polarization Studies of Radio = Galaxies and Jets) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of = radio galaxy NGC-6251 to study optical emissions associated with its = radio hot spots. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic = fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a = random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6184 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Photometric Calibration = Monitor UV/OPT STD) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet and optical observations = of standard star GRW+70D582 in order to monitor the photometric = calibrations of the camera and to check for decontamination. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6329 (A Photometric Search for Planets of Nearby = Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric observations of nearby = star HD187642 in order to search for planets. The technique involves use = of the Planetary Camera with narrow and wide bandpass filters to measure = photometrically the presence of resolved dark companions. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6419 (Testing Unified Models With a Complete = Sample of Seyfert Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the Seyfert galaxy = MARK313 to help build a complete survey of the Seyfert class of galaxies. = This will help test the current model for Seyfert class galaxies. This = model proposes that all Seyferts have Seyfert-1 nucleus, which is surround= ed by a torus of gas and dust. The observations were completed as = planned and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6348 (Blue Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some snapshot images of the blue = continuum in radio galaxy 3C277.3. Combined with existing data, these = exposures will provide high spatial resolution information on the color = distribution within galaxies, redding due to dust, spacial indices of the = optical synchrotron jets, and colors of the active nuclei and tidal jets. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.8 Completed GHRS/2 6748 (Abundances of Very Heavy Elements in the = Early Galaxy III) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = observations of the very old, metal poor, halo star HD115444. From these = spectra, the abundances of irridium, lead, platinum, and osmium will be = determined. These elements are synthesized in stellar interiors by = either rapid or slow neutron capture processes. The observations were = completed as planned, ands no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 13 Successful : 13 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 7 Successful : 7 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant problems encountered in any HST = susbsystem. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
