HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1652 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 06/10/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 06/11/96 Daily Status Report as of 163/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. = The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5997 (The Cores of Elliptical Galaxies in the = Coma Cluster) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the large elliptical = galaxies IC3623 and NGC4673 which are located in the Coma Cluster. The = purpose is to study the luminosity profiles in their central nuclear = regions. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.3 Completed FOS/BL/GHRS/1 5947 (The Relationship Between Galaxies = and Lyman-Alpha Absorbers at Low Redshift) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) and the High Resolution = Spectrograph (Side One) were used to make observations of Quasar = PG-1211-14 to study the relation ship between its galaxy and Lyman-Alpha = Absorbers at Low Redshift. The relationship between the galaxy and low = column density, metal poor quasar absorbers is poorly understood. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.5 Completed FOS/RD 6025 (Consequences of the Shoemaker-Levy Impact = With Jupiter) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the planet Jupiter in order to study the = consequences from the impact of the comet Shoemaker-Levy. This is to = study the atmosphere following the impact to measure the chemical = abundances as a function of time. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6964 (Photometry of Candidate Dwarf Spheroidal = Galaxies in the M81 Group) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric and two color images of = the candidate dwarf, spheroidal galaxy (dSph) GAL-100441 which is located = in the M-81 galaxy cluster group. From these data, a color-magnitude = diagram will be constructed, which will allow the determination of = various physical properties for the candidate dSphs. The observations = were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 13 Successful : 13 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 4 Successful : 4 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations began experiencing problems with the load and file = transfer function of the PRS ground system at 162/0731Z and, as a result, = required uplinks to the HST cannot be performed. PRS programmers were = called in but as of 163/1200Z the problems had not been solved. = Currently both ephemeris loads and gyro bias loads need to be uplinked = soon in order to forestall operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
