HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1653 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 06/11/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 06/12/96 Daily Status Report as of 164/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6348 (Blue Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some snapshot images of the blue = continuum in radio galaxy 3C219.0. Combined with existing data, these = exposures will provide high spatial resolution information on the color = distribution within galaxy, redding due to dust, spacial indices of the = optical synchrotron jets, and colors of the active nuclei and tidal jets. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky = survey observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel = with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series of internal calibration = observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were = taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the = cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6559 (An Imaging Study of Asteroids) The WF/PC-2 was used to make multi-color observations of the main = belt asteroid 54-Alexander. This asteroid will reach perigee during = Cycle 6. The images will be searched for companions. The observations = were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed GHRS/1 6449 (Spectroscopy of Two Further UV Bright = High-Redshift Quasars) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the UV bright, unreddened, = high-redshifted, newly-discovered quasar HE-2347-43 to try to detect = absorption lines in its line of sight. The observations were completed = as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration = observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were = taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the = cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.7 Completed FOS/RD 6577 (An Expanded Survey for Study of the = Lyman-Alpha Line and QSO Mg II Absorption) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = observations of the QSO MRK132 in order to make a survey of the = Lyman-Alpha line and the 68 Mg II absorption line system. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 7 The acquisition at 164/0204Z resulted in default when the step = scan limit was exceeded. HSTAR 5926 was written. Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 17 Successful : 17 2.3 Operations Notes: The load and file transfer problem mentioned in yesterday's report = cleared up at approximately 163/1600Z, and all required loads were = successfully uplinked. The exact cause of the failure is still under = investigation. A TTR was written to document a two-and-a-half TDRS West no-user = period that was required when the KSA downlink showed signs of eminent = failure and corrective active action needed to be taken. This caused no = significant impact to HST operations. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
