HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1657 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 06/17/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 06/18/96 Daily Status Report as of 170/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxy 3C268.2 = to study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FGS 6047 (Calibrating the Mass Luminosity Relation at = the End of the Main Sequence) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of star GL473 = as part of a study to determine its mass luminosity relationship. The = purpose is to measure the precise parallax and relative orbit of its = faint companion. The observations were completed as planned, and no = problems were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.4 Completed FOS/BL 6750 (Spectropolarimetry of Ultraviolet Continuum = and Line Emissions in Binary Systems) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = ultraviolet continuum and emission line spectropolaragraphic observations = of the eclipsing binary star system V356-Sgr. The observations were = taken during the primary eclipse. The observations were executed as = scheduled and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6345 (Determining the Binary = Frequency for Ultra-Cool, Nearby M Dwarf Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of ultra-cool, nearby, M = class dwarf star TVL513-46 to determine the frequency for it being a = binary system and to try to detect stellar and sub-stellar companions. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed FOS/BL/GHRS/1 5947 (The Relationship Between Galaxies = and Lyman-Alpha Absorbers at Low Redshift) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) and the High Resolution = Spectrograph (Side One) were used to make observations of Quasar = PKS-1252+1 to study the relation ship between its galaxy and Lyman-Alpha = Absorbers at Low Redshift. The relationship between the galaxy and low = column density, metal poor quasar absorbers is poorly understood. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6184 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Photometric Calibration = Monitor UV/OPT STD) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet and optical observations = of standard star GRW+70D582 in order to monitor the photometric = calibrations of the camera and to check for decontamination. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxy 3C297.0 = to study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FOC/96 6349 (Snapshot Search for High Redshift QSOs = with Far-UV Flux) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make snapshot images of = the quasi-stellar object Q1111-152. This is to determine if this high = redshifted object has a far ultraviolet flux. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 12 Successful : 12 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations personnel transferred operations to the SAMS backup = facility at approximately 170/0630Z in preparation for the simulation = being run on June 18. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Starting at 8:00 a.m. this morning, HST SM2 personnel will be = conducting GSFC Internal Simulation #6 (Rendezvous/ Capture).
