HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1659 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 06/19/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 06/20/96 Daily Status Report as of 172/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed GHRS/1 6027 (HST-Galileo Torus Observations) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = observations of the plasma torus which is formed by Jupiter's moon Io. = These observations were in coordination with the Galileo and EUVE = spacecraft, and ground based observations. These data will provide three = dimensional information on the torus and give insight into the process = that determines the shape of the torus and the mechanism for the entry = and transport of material. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy QDOTULIR. These data will be searched for = multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and for starburst = regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.3 Completed FGS/WF/PC-2 6062 (HD98800, An Extraordinary Star) The WF/PC-2 and the FGSs were used to observe HD98800, a nearby = multiple star with strong infrared emission. The infrared emission = presumably comes from a thick disc around the system. The proposal will = measure the strength of the Mg II line at 2800A, and will address the = fundamental questions about disk formation, maintenance, and dynamics. = Several other reference stars were also observed. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 18 Successful : 18 2.3 Operations Notes: Flight operations personnel returned to the MOR area from the SAMS = backup facility at 171/2111Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
