HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1664 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 06/26/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 06/27/96 Daily Status Report as of 179/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.2 Completed GHRS/2/1 6008 (The Atmosphere of IO and Its Interaction = With the Plasma Torus) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Sides One and Two) were used to = make ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the atmosphere of = Jupiter's moon Io during egress from the planet's shadow. This is to = study temporal changes in the emission lines of O and S. The observations= were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6347 (A Search for Jets in Planetary Nebulae) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the planetary nebulae = (class PNe) HE117970 in order to search for the presence of possible = narrow jets. The current model for PNe formation indicates that jets are = an unexpected phenomena. Yet there is a growing body of circumstantial = evidence that suggests narrow jets are common features in PNe. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed GHRS/1 6550 (Understanding the Simplest Symbiotic = System(s) II. The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = spectrographic observations of an eclipse of the binary system HD117970 = (aka, RW Hydrae) in order to study their symbiotic relationship. This = symbiotic star system is one with a red and one hot component and known = to have emission lines in its spectra. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6193 (PSF Characterization) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several observational images of the = large globular cluster Omega Cen using the main photometric filters. = During these exposures the spacecraft executed a 4X4 dwell scan so that = the images of the object fell at 16 different locations on the CCDs. = This is to sample the point spread function (PSF). The observations were = completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6509 (Jovian Global Photometry during the = Galileo Epoch) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the planet Jupiter to = coincide which observations taken with the Galileo spacecraft. These = data will be used to study the vertical aerosol structure of the Jovian = atmosphere as well as its spatial and temporal variability. The = observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 12 Successful : 12 2.3 Operations Notes: Realtime operations were conducted uneventfully in the SAMS = facility from 178/1230Z until 178/2200Z. A TTR was written for data losses suffered during two scheduled eve= nts due to severe weather at WSGTU between 179/0321Z and 179/0432Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
