HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1665 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 06/27/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 06/28/96 Daily Status Report as of 180/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6452 (Global and Temporal Coverage = of a Atmospheric Regions of the Planet Jupiter) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of selected regions of = the planet Jupiter in order to investigate its atmospheric dynamics. = These data will be used in the interpre-tations of the observations made = from the Galileo Mission. The observations were executed as scheduled, = with no anomalies noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6004 (Direct Measurement of the Mass = Distribution in the Rich Cluster Abell 1689) The WF/PC-2 was used to make very deep observational exposures of the = rich galactic cluster Abell 1689 in order to make direct measurements of = its mass distribution. The goal is to use the images of the blue, = background galaxies that are distorted by the gravitational field of = Abell 1689 and to map the distribution of the mass in the cluster. The = observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2/GHRS/1 5828 (HST Far-UV Imaging and Spectra of = Jupiter Coordinated With the Galileo Probe) The WF/PC-2 and the High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) were = both used to make images and ultraviolet spectrographic observations of = the planet Jupiter in order to study the auroral zones located near the = planet's magnetic poles and other high latitude areas. These = observations are to be taken at the same time that the Galileo spacecraft = makes spectral observations. The observations were completed as planned, = and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed FOS/RD 6577 (An Expanded Survey for Study of the = Lyman-Alpha Line and QSO Mg II Absorption) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = observations of the QSO PKS0823-22 in order to make a survey of the = Lyman-Alpha line and the 68 Mg II absorption line system. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6193 (PSF Characterization) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several observational images of the = large globular cluster Omega Cen using the main photometric filters. = During these exposures the spacecraft executed a 4X4 dwell scan so that = the images of the object fell at 16 different locations on the CCDs. = This is to sample the point spread function (PSF). The observations were = completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 There was a loss of lock at 180/0445Z.
