HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1682 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 07/24/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 07/25/96 Daily Status Report as of 207/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6348 (Blue Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some snapshot images of the blue = continuum in radio galaxy 3C322.0. Combined with existing data, these = exposures will provide high spatial resolution information on the color = distribution within galaxies, redding due to dust, spacial indices of the = optical synchrotron jets, and colors of the active nuclei and tidal jets. = The observations were executed as planned with no reported anomalies. 1.2 Completed FOS/RD 6091 (Ionization and Abundances of BALQSOs) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = observations of BALQSO 1524+5147 in order to study its ionization and = abundances. This QSO is known to show broad absorption lines in its = spectra. The goal is to observe lines from several different ionization = states of oxygen. The observations were completed as planned, and no = anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed GHRS/2 6615 (Fundamental Parameters of White Dwarfs in = Close Binaries) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = extreme ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the close binary = system EUVE-J1016 (a white dwarf/M-dwarf binary system) in order to = obtain fundamental parameters of its white dwarf star. As the older star = ages through the asymptotic branch phase, the gaseous envelope which = encompasses both stars dissipates and the white dwarf becomes visible. A = wavelength calibration image was also taken. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of FOS/BL 6166 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of = Spectra and Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = wavelength calibration images to measure the stability of the FOS Blue = Side wavelength scale and spectral locations. A Taled calibration = observations was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6774 (Temporal Variability in Io's Surface and = Plumes) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Jupiter's moon Io at = Longitude 340 degrees in order to study temporal variability in its plume = and surface markings. The longitude was chosen such that a known volcano = will be present at Io's limb. The proposal was executed as planned, and = no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : Successful : Scheduled Reacquisitions : Successful : 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : Successful : 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations personnel returned from the SAMS back-up facility = at 207/0045Z, after the conclusion of GSFC Internal Simulation #8 (EVAs = 3/4) last evening. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
