HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1693 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 08/08/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 08/09/96 Daily Status Report as of 222/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6774 (Temporal Variability in Io's Surface and = Plumes) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Jupiter's moon Io at = longitude 215 degrees in order to study temporal variability in its plums = and surface markings. The longitude was chosen such that a known volcano = will be present at Io's limb. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FOC/96 6161 (FOC/96 Cycle 5 Aperture Location Monitor) The Faint Object Camera was used to make astrometric standard = field observations of NGC-188-54 to monitor the location of the camera's = f/96 apertures with respect to the V2-V3 coordinate frame. A dark = calibration image was also taken. As initially mentioned in yesterday's = report, the guide star acquisition for this proposal defaulted to fine = lock guidance on FGS 3 only, possibly affecting four of the observations. = HSTAR 5674 was written. Otherwise, the observations were completed as = scheduled, and no further problems were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6780 (Spectroscopy and Imaging of a New Globular = cluster Planetary Nebula) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the oxygen abundances = in the planetary nebula NGC-6441-PN which is located in the large = globular cluster NGC6441. The planetary nebula appears to be severely = depleted in oxygen. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = problems were reported. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. = The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.5 Completed FOS/BL 6202 (Cycle 5 FOS Spectral Flat field = Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make observat= ions of the white, relatively featureless, white dwarf star WD0501+527 in = order to make flat field calibration images. The observations were made = through the 1.0 aperture, with all usable detector/disperser = combinations. The observations were executed as schedule, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy IR2249-18. These data will be searched for = multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and for starburst = regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 10 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems reported. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: The RMGA Calibration Test will be performed today from = approximately 1300Z until approximately 2000Z. /DMH
