HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1696 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 08/13/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 08/14/96 Daily Status Report as of 227/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Competed Two sets of FOS/RD 6552 (Spectrophotometry of Inner = Jovian Satellites) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make spectrographic = observations of Jupiter's inner moons Alalthea and Metis during their = eastern elongation. Many things can be determined from the analysis of = these spectra. A guide star loss-of-lock was encountered with FGS #1 with = a torque star selector compensation error type B at 226/0514Z. During the = FOS observation 14 a binary acquisition guide star loss-of-lock occurred = taking the TDF down until the occultation at 0556Z. The NSSC-1 had a = status buffer message at 226/0524Z due to no TDF at the start of the FOS = observations #15. The Shutter did not open and the observation was lost. = The FOS observation #16 was also conducted with the shutter closed. = During the second set of observations a FOS Normal Mode 2 Target = Acquisition failure was received at 226/1941Z. STB error message #3202 = was received. No other problems were reported. 1.2 Completed FGS 6882 (Companion to GL623) The FGSs were used to make POS and TRANS mode astrometric = observations of star GL623 (aka, Gleise 623) looking for possible = companions. Five other reference stars were also used. From these data = the precise parallax, barycentic orbits, and accurate masses of the star = and its companion will be determined. The observations were completed as = schedule, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed Two sets of WF/PC-2 6650 (Atmospheric Dynamics and Cloud = Structure on Neptune) The WF/PC-2 was used to make multi-spectral observations of the = planet Neptune in order to study its atmospheric dynamics and cloud = structure. The images will be converted into maps of the cloud top = surface. A status buffer message EXEC #410 was received at 226/1159 = indicating the STR was declared ready because either the start STR = request was rejected or the STR never became ready. The STR was started = with SD flow instead of the start STR function of the PIT write command. = Observation #27 may have been impacted or lost. (See HSTARs 5687, 5688 = and 5689). No other anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 10 2.3 Operations Notes: Nothing to report at this time. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
