HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1702 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 08/21/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 08/22/96 Daily Status Report as of 235/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of FGS 6885 (L726-8/ UV-Ceti) The FGSs were used in both the POS and TRANS modes to make = astrometric observations of the star UV-Ceti. This is to look for short = period, low mass companions in orbit around the star. The observations = were completed as planned, an no anomalies were reported. 1.2 Completed GHRS/1 6069 (Unraveling the Complex Wind Outflow From = Zeta Auriga) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the star Zeta Auriga (aka, HD32068) in = order to study its complex wind outflow. This system in to be an = eclipsing binary system with a 972 day period. A wavelength calibration = observation was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed Three Sets of FOS/RD 6912 (FOS Cycle 6: Dark Monitoring) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = measurements of the internal background. All exposures were internals, = and the spectrographic observations were made in the image mode. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed GHRS/1 6575 (Observations of Interstellar Clouds in the = Galactic Halo) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the halo star HC167756 in = order to study the foreground interstellar medium absorption lines. = These spectra will be used to determine the physical properties of the = individual clouds, and will provide more information on the elemental = abundances, the relation between the ionized and neutral gas, and the = distribution of the various species. The observations were completed as = planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed GHRS/1 6515 (Unraveling the Complex Wind From Zeta = Aurigae: Cycle 6) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = spectrographic observations of spectrographic binary star HD32068 (aka, = Zeta Aurigae) in order to study its winds near the two stars, and how it = changes with orbital phase. This binary system is composed of a K class = supergiant and a B class dwarf with a long period of 972 days. A = wavelength calibration image was also taken. The observations were = completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6903 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: = Decontamination) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several calibration bias = observations, internal flats, K-Spot images and dark calibration images = which are all part of a Cycle 6 decontamination procedure. No science = was interleaved with the dark exposures. The observations were completed = as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed FOS/RD 6577 (An Expanded Survey for Study of the = Lyman-Alpha Line and QSO Mg II Absorption) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = observations of the QSO S40248+43 in order to make a survey of the = Lyman-Alpha line and the 68 Mg II absorption line system. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 14 2.3 Operations Notes: The installation of DF-224 Flight Software Version 9.7 was begun = at approximately 235/0730Z.
