HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1705 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 08/26/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 08/27/96 Daily Status Report as of 240/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 6920 (Monitor the Long-Term Stability of FGS #3) FGS #3 was used in the POS mode to make observations of reference = star OF975 (which is located in cluster M-35) and several other reference = stars in order monitor the long-term internal stability of the FGSs. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive = Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported.= 1.3 Completed GHRS/1/2 6418 (Small-Scale ISM Structure: The Remarkable = Sightline Toward MU Cru.) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Sides One and Two) was used in = the echelle mode to make spectrographic observations of the binary star = Mu-Cru (aka, HD112091). These observations were made to study the small = scale structure of the inter-stellar medium which lies in the = line-of-sight to this star. These observations will provide information = on the small scale variations that appear to be present in the = interstellar medium. One of the re-acquisitions for this proposal was = unsuccessful (and reported in yesterday's report), and the take data flag = went down. The effects on the proposal have not been reported. HSTAR = 5697 was written. The observations were completed as planned, and no = problems were reported. 1.4 Completed Five Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. = The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of FOC/96 6349 (Snapshot Search for High = Redshift QSOs with Far-UV Flux) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make snapshot images of = the quasi-stellar objects Q0328-466 and Q1414+477. This is to determine = if these high redshifted objects have a far ultraviolet flux. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed GHRS/1/2 6594 (White Dwarf Companions of Barium and CH = Peculiar Stars) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Sides One and Two ) were used to = attempt to make spectrographic observations of the white dwarf of the = Barium and CH Peculiar class star HD163993. This will test the theory = that abundance anomalies in this star are caused by mass transfer from = the precursor of the white dwarf. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed FOS/BL 6498 (Accretion Streams in Magnetic Variables: = FOS Eclipse of 4 Rosa) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make rapid = mode spectrographic observations of the accretion streams in the magnetic = variable star (i.e., cataclysmic variable) RXJ0515+01 (aka, 4 Rosa). = This is a binary system, and it contains a white dwarf star, an accretion = disk, a mass stream, and a hot spot where the mass stream hits the disk = and a companion star. The observations were completed as planned and no = anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed GHRS/1 6088 (Ultraviolet Tomography of the Chromosphere = of the K2 Dwarf in V471 Tau) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make rapid = mode ultraviolet tomographic observations of a K2 class binary dwarf star = and its eclipsing binary white dwarf companion which are located in the = cluster V471-Tau in order to study its chromosphere. The observations = were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6693 (Curcumstellar Nebulae as Fossil Records of = the Mass Loss History) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the curcumstellar nebula = surrounding the luminous blue variable star HR-Carinae in order to study = the fossil records of its mass loss history. The observations were = completed as scheduled and no anomalies were reported. 1.10 Completed GHRS/2 6172 (CRIMP2: Cycle 5 Condensed-Regimen = Integrated Monitoring Program) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to obtain = darks, internal flats (in photoscan mode), wavelength calibrations and = observations of standard star BD+28D4211. This includes detector = calibration, sensitivity monitoring, and wavelength monitoring. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 12 Successful : 12 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 03 Successful : 03 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 30 Successful : 30 2.3 Operations Notes: The ephemeris loads were not uplinked as scheduled today when load = checking revealed that the HST ephemeris had an accuracy failure. HSTAR = 5698 was written. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
