HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1711 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 09/04/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 09/05/96 Daily Status Report as of 249/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6348 (Blue Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some snapshot images of the blue = continuum in radio galaxy 3C303.0. Combined with existing data, these = exposures will provide high spatial resolution information on the color = distribution within galaxies, redding due to dust, spacial indices of the = optical synchrotron jets, and colors of the active nuclei and tidal jets. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.2 Completed FOS/BL 6766 (Narrow Line Seyfert 1S and the Iron Enigma = in Active Galaxies) The FOS (Blue Side) was used to make observations of the 1S class = narrow lined Seyfert galaxy MARK493 in order to study its iron enigma. = These data should show correlations between its x-ray spectra, = kinematics, and Fe II spectra. The observations were completed as = planned and no problems were reported 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6802 (Cosmology With the Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some medium deep observations in = parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed GHRS/1/2 6786 (HST Observations of Io's Atmosphere = Coordinated with the Galileo Probe) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Both Sides One and Two) was used = to make observations of the moon Io during its egress from behind the = Planet Jupiter. These observations will be coordinated with other = observations taken from the Galileo Probe in orbit around the planet = Jupiter in order to study Io's atmosphere. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6437 (Sins: Supernova Intensive Study - Cycle 6) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the supernova = SN-1992A and its circumstellar matter which is located in the Large = Magellanic Cloud. The observations were completed as planned, and no = problems were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6909 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: Earth Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the bright Earth to = obtain streak flats which are used to construct high quality flat fields = for the WF/PC-2 filter set. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed GHRS/1/2 6594 (White Dwarf Companions of Barium and CH = Peculiar Stars) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Sides One and Two ) was used to = attempt to make spectrographic observations of the white dwarf of the = Barium and CH Peculiar class star HD46407. This will test the theory = that abundance anomalies in this star caused by mass transfer from the = precursor of the white dwarf. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 14 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations transitioned to the SAMS back-up facility at = 249/0800Z in preparation for today's simulation. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: GSFC internal Simulation #9 (EVA 1) will be conducted today from = approximately 8:00 a.m. until 6 p.m. /DMH
