HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1712 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 09/05/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 09/06/96 Daily Status Report as of 250/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 6883 (Orbital Parameters of Known Binary) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the known = binary star system SAO103656 (aka ADS 11300) in order to obtain its = orbital parameters. The target is a known double star with an orbital = period of 54 years. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive = Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.3 Completed FOS/BL 6817 (The Ultraviolet Spectrum of Callisto) The Faint Object Spectrograpg (Blue Side) was used to make = ultraviolet spectra observations of Jupiter's moon Callisto, looking for = evidence of surface contaminants. The observations were completed as = planned, and no probles were noted. 1.4 Completed FGS 6495 (The Mass of the Bright Giant HD173764) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of bright, = spectrographic binary system, giant star HD173764. The binary system has = a 832 day period. The objective is to determine the individual masses of = the G4 and B9 class pair. The observations were completed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FOC/96 6531 (Correlated Study of the Outer Magnetosphere = With FOC, GHRS, and Galileo Probe) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of = Jupiter's aurora at both poles. The observations will be correlated with = data obtained from the Galileo space probe which is in orbit around the = planet Jupiter. The observations were completed as planned, and no = problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6361 (High Resolution Imaging of X-Ray Selected = AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the = known low red shifted x-ray active galactic nucleus (AGN) MS1545.3+0. = These data will allow a study of the optical properties of an unbiased = sample of AGN host galaxies. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed FOS/BL 6206 (FOS Polarimetry Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = observations of standard star BD+64D106 to determine the most useful = spectropolarimetric modes. The investigators will determine the = locations of the polarization spectra, the transmission of the polarizer, = the angles of the Wollaston prisms and waveplates in celestial = coordinates, and the instrumental polarization. The observations were = completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6802 (Cosmology With the Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some medium deep observations in = parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed FGS 6873 (Parallaxes of Hyades Cluster Members, Cycle 6 = - High) The FGSs were used to make parallax astrometric observations of = the star VA310 and several other reference stars within the Hyades star = cluster. When the data from this cycle is combined with previuosly = obtained data, the population 1 zero age main sequence will be better = defined. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were reported. 1.10 Completed FGS 6874 (Parallaxes of Hyades Cluster Members, Cycle 6 = - High) The FGSs were used to make parallax astrometric observations of = the stars VA622 and VA627 and several other reference stars within the = Hyades star cluster, to better define the Population 1 zero age main seque= nce. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 14 2.3 Operations Notes: Upon completion of GSFC Internal Simulation #9 (EVA 1), HST = operations personnel return to the STOC from the SAMS back-up facility. The PRS real-time system failed to uplink a DF-224 load patch = during a gyro bias update load procedure. Using manual means, the load = was uplinked. Later the same PSTOL procedure was successfully used to = uplink the load. HSTAR 5701 was written. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
