HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1715 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 09/10/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 09/11/96 Daily Status Report as of 255/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 6882 (Companion to GL6230) The FGSs were used to make POS and TRANS mode astrometric = observations of star GL623 (aka, Gleise 623) looking for possible = companions. Five other reference stars were also used. From these data = the precise parallax, barycentic orbits, and accurate masses of the star = and its companion will be determined. The observations were completed as = schedule, and no anomalies were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy QDOTULIR06. These data will be searched for multiple cores, which imply a merger has = occurred, and for starburst regions. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FOC/96 6349 (Snapshot search for High Redshift QSOs with = Far-UV Flux) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make snapshot images of = the quasi-stellar object Q0032-375. This is to determine if this high = redshifted object has a far ultraviolet flux. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6584 (Interaction of Supernovae With = Curcumstellar Material) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Supernova SN1995N. = The objective is to study the interaction between the supernova and the = remnant circumstellar material from the progenitor star, and how that = interaction can sustain supernovae luminocity for long periods. As = reported in yesterday's report, there were at least two losses of lock = near the beginning of this proposal by 254/065438Z (the earlier part of = the acquisition occurred in the ZOE). The take data flag remained down = until 254/065911Z. HSTAR 5708 was written. Otherwise, the observations = were completed as planned, and no further problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 7203 (Cosmology with the Medium Deep Survey - = Short Orbit Cases) The WF/PC-2 was used to take short (about 20-minute) exposures, to = be taken in parallel with the prime science observations, using the I = filter. These exposures are part of the medium-deep survey, which = emphasizes exposures that will be useful in obtaining cosmological = parameters. As reported yesterday, at 254/082539Z a loss of lock = occurred, and one of the exposures was shortened. HSTAR 5706 was = written. Otherwise, the observations were completed as planned, and no = further problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6802 (Cosmology With the Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with = the prime science observations as part of the Medium Deep Sky Survey. As = documented in HSTAR 5709, there were losses of lock at 254/1133Z, = 254/1143Z, and 254/1511Z during the execution of this proposal. Each = occurrence caused the take data flag to go down with resultant loss of = science data. Otherwise, the observations were executed as scheduled, = and no further problems were reported. 1.7 Completed FOC/48 6199 (Cycle 5: f/48 Long Slit Spectrograph = Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Camera (f/48) was used to make wavelength = calibration observations of the long slit spectrograph. This was done by = taking extended line emission observations of the source NGC-6543. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6360 (A Snapshot Survey of "Radio Loud" IRAS = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = radio loud IRAS galaxy GAL-1450+0. The WF/PC-2 was used to discern high = surface brightness structures in its post-starburst active nuclear = regions. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were reported 1.10 Completed GHRS/2 6530 (The Wind Momentum: Luminosity Relationship = for LMC A and B Supergiants) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = spectrographic observations the A/B class, supergiant star HD32034 which = is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. These data are part of a large = effort to calibrate the wind momentum-luminosity function for supergiant = stars. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 6365 (A Snapshot Survey For Companions and = Clusters around Wolf-Rayet Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of Wolf-Rayet st= ar WR6 in order to look for companion stars and clusters. Photometry was = performed on the Wolf-Rayet star and associated stars. The observations = were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 20 Successful : 20 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems reported. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: SMGT-26 (DIU) is scheduled for today.
